The Book Lovers' Portrait Commission

Sometimes it's difficult to capture those intimate family moments - there's always someone who has to be behind the camera! The drop-in artist commission services could be the answer. Story-drawings and Collage portraits can bring together a memorable but hard-to-capture moment in one beautiful illustration.

I was requested to do a family portrait of my client with her husband and daughter all reading a book (Peepo) together, with characters from the daughter's favourite books in the background. These included Hairy Maclary, the Very Hungry Caterpillar, Spot, the Gruffalo, the Three-Legged Cat, the Tiger who came to tea, Zog, Elmer, and Nicholas the Bunny. The final image was to match with the mineral mist child’s room wall colour.

To create this image my client gave me two pictures, one of the father reading with the baby and one with the family posing. The faces in each photo were taken at a very similar angle to help with the task of merging the two together. Also, I was given all the references of the books to be included, plus a color swatch of the wall where the image would hang.

Here the final piece:

Testimonial:

"Daniela created a beautiful artwork for me and my family. I had a rough idea of what I wanted, but the finished artwork was so much better than I could have imagined! It both tells a story and captures a moment in time, and we all love it"
